HMRC gives Self Assessment taxpayers more time to ease COVID-19 pressures

HMRC have today announce that they will waive late filing penalties on 2021 Self Assessment returns filed after the 31st January 2022 deadline, provided they are filed BEFORE 28 February 2022.


Late payment penalties will also be waived, provided full payment is made by 1 April 2022, or a payment plan is agreed with HMRC. Note, they will still charge interest from 1 February on late payments.


Please note we are still advising clients to send us their information as early as possible with a view to completing all returns by 31st January, however the announcement gives clients under time pressure due to COVID a little more flexibility.
